(+) The main difference between the bus lines is their price.  In the case of the中通 (zhong tong) buses to Jinan, they are cramped and un-air-conditioned.  The extra 20 RMB is well worth it.  The main line, 大宇 (da yu), is air-conditioned, provides water and cookies, and has a TV at the front playing kung fu movies and karaoke videos.  Also, no smoking is allowed on大宇 buses.

(*) All foreigners must pay an additional 1 or 2 RMB for PICC insurance.  Don’t bother arguing because you’ll either have to pay it or you can’t get on the bus.  Buses to Dongying (from Beijing or Qingdao at least) do not charge this fee.
